The first day of winter officially starts today, but much of the nation has already experienced colder weather and snow. Depending on where you live, you may be able to ride during the winter months, or you may want to pack away your trike until the weather is a little bit warmer.
Knowing how to properly care for your Liberty Trike for winter storage is essential. The following are tips on battery care, and storage.
BATTERY CARE:
- DO NOT ride the Liberty Trike when the temperature is below 32°. The battery effectiveness and power (about 50%) will decrease significantly.
- Unplug and remove the battery from the trike. Wipe down and dry the battery and the male and female connection points.
- Bring the battery indoors to warm up to room temperature. Wait two hours before recharging the battery. Never charge the battery when the surrounding area is below 40F.
- Only use the charging products that came with the Liberty Trike. Do not use any third-party products, this will void the warranty.
- With dry hands, firmly insert the power and charging plugs into the electrical outlet. Failure to do so can result in a fire caused by electrical shock, burn, or overheating.
- Store your battery indoors. When you aren’t using the battery for an extended time (i.e., 1-4 months), charge the battery every thirty days to 100%.
- Unplug the battery from the wall when it’s finished charging. Do not leave the battery unattended for any extended time.
- Never cover the battery charger or place objects on top of it while its charging. This could result in internal overheating leading which can lead to a fire or explosion.
- Stop the charging process immediately if you notice a strange smell or smoke.
CARE & STORAGE:
- Use a soft damp cloth to wipe down the Liberty Trike. Remove any dirt or debris that the trike has collected. Wipe dry with a soft cloth and let it air dry before storage.
- Use a trike cover or a large tarp to cover and protect the Liberty Trike. Secure the cover or tarp with bungee cords or rope, to further protect the bike from its surroundings.
- We firmly recommend that you store your trike inside your house, garage or storage shed. It should NOT to be left outside and exposed to the weather.
- Once or twice a month, check on your tire pressure. Sometimes when the surrounding area is below 40F, there will be a loss of air in the tires. Add or remove air using a bicycle floor pump.
