We are thrilled to announce that we will be continuing the Liberty Trike donations this year - upping the number to 20!
That's right, 20 deserving families will receive a Liberty Trike for their child in need. Typically the families that apply are those that have a child that's struggling with diseases like Spinal muscular atrophy, Duchenne syndrome - and other physical challenges - that make riding a bike strenuous. This program may not have come to life if it wasn't for a little girl named Allison.
The little girl that changed the game
Let's take it back to 2019.
One day, EBT received an email from Kim Heinrich. She wanted advice on any electric trike that might help Allison - her daughter that's struggling with SMA - get some much-needed physical therapy and keep up with her siblings on family bike rides. One email lead to another and before anyone know it, they were planning to make a trip to the warehouse to test drive a Liberty Trike.
After a special, eye-opening experience with Kim and Allison, Jason knew something special was about to emerge. He felt the need to donate the trike to Allison. It was then that he knew that he needed to help other children experiencing similar struggles, too.
In 2020 she was announced Charitable Coordinator and EBT began working with Kim to identify other kids with SMA who could benefit from a Liberty Trike.
Fast forward to 2022
To date, EBT has directly donated 34 Liberty Trikes and through generous outside contributions, an additional 32 Liberty Trikes were given to kids. This has resulted in a combined total value of $103,716.
In our recent interview with Kim, she gives insightful information on child qualifications, how to apply, outside donations, and more.
She also talks about how SMA has affected their family and how the trike has significantly lifted Allison's spirits."When she's on the trike, she's just a different kid. She's not the kid on a mobility scooter or wheelchair. She feels like everyone else," said Kim.
We can't wait to find our youngsters and get them on their Liberty Trikes! Stay tuned this year for their success stories.
Lastly, we want to thank each and every one of you. All of you that have supported us all of these years. All of you that make our Liberty Trike community a reality (and incredibly entertaining!). All of you that have donated to the program in the present and past. Basically, all of you that keep us going. You guys are the bomb diggity!
